Look closely at the ladybug. It is such a small insect, and yet it is considered lucky. This little creature teaches us an important lesson: that lucky things do come in our lives, but we must be aware of them. All too often we take things for granted. We assume things are ours by right of demand. The sad truth is that nothing is guaranteed in our lives. We are all at the whims of fickle fortune. What is given to us, can easily be taken away.

Understand: we can not control fortune, but we can learn to be happy by appreciating the things we have. Even the smallest things in life are a blessing to us: food, water, and shelter--the earth, the sea, and the sky. Learn to appreciate all of them and you will be well on your way to discovering true fortune and happiness.
